A women’s health company
developing a platform for uterine treatments
We are focused on developing treatments for women where there is significant unmet need - abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) and postpartum hemorrhage (PPH)
Women's health, particularly strong maternal health, is a fundamental part of well-functioning societies.
To reinforce this belief, Avana Health is developing uterine health treatments that are safe, effective, affordable, and readily accessible anywhere in the world. Treatments that improve the everyday quality of life for women and are easy for providers to use. To make this a reality, Avana Health is embarking on its first clinical trials.
Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a life-altering problem with no immediate, simple solution.
AUB represents 33 million cases per year in the US alone.
AUB can occur from adolescence into perimenopause
At least 1/3 of all visits to a gynecologist and 5% of all Emergency Room Visits are due to AUB
Work loss associated with menstrual bleeding has significant economic implications for women in the workplace
There is a critical unmet need
“All too often, women live with abnormal uterine bleeding for decades. They try everything, from oral birth control to intrauterine devices to ablation therapy. Finally they say enough is enough and have a hysterectomy, knowing this is a major surgery, is the end of fertility, and carries long-term health risks. After vacations ruined and work missed, many are sick of the looming question, “Is it going to happen again today?” The current treatments are insufficient. As a result, living with these problems has become normalized, but we can and should do better.”
